Breeder Resources

Are you new to breeding or just looking for some advise? I am not a licensed vet but I can say I have learned many things over raising puppies for the last 10 years. I think thats one of the the best way of learning things. Just learning as you go and trial and error? I have done MANY hours of research, looking on the internet, talking to friends and just learning from my own dogs/puppies and I can confidently say I can give some solid advise. I LOVE to help out anyone who is either interested in whelping their first litter or currently whelping a litter because I know the stress and struggles you go through. Caring for puppies is such a rewarding feeling but can also be very stressful as well.

Here are just a few things I've learned along the way, tips &  must have items to help you prepare and get ready for your upcoming litter.

When we had our first litter 10 years ago it was completely on accident. At the time we recently rehomed 2 new puppies and well they got pregnant. At first yes I was a little panicky as I had to figure out how to raise puppies quick but it honestly became one of the best things to happen to our family. We were so incredible lucky as the momma was the absolute BEST mom. Luckily most dogs naturally have the motherly instinct and take care of their puppies completely on their own. Of course you need to be there to oversee everything and give the mom food, water and lots of love but its an amazing natural mom instinct that they have. If you have a mom who does not have that natural instinct please reach out to me for tips. Over my time breeding I have had experience in whelping puppies without the mom's help as she rejected her puppies(not very common so don't worry but if you need help I would love to share my advise) .

I will do a post on that as well soon.

I have put a few list together of some of my favorite items & supplies  for whelping, puppies and dogs.

Preparing Mom For Her Litter

As the mom is coming close to her due date you may see a change in her behavior. My dog's have had a lack of appetite, they become less active,  go to the potty in the house(they normally are great at going outside). These are a few signsI would know that the time is coming. It is important to have their whelping area set up prior to them giving birth. I love for them to feel comfortable. I know how stressful it is giving birth so put yourself in their position and think of whatever you can do to make the process peaceful for them.

We use a welping box & love this one

It is easy to put together and very durable.

We also use these carpets

I have 4 of them so I have extra for when they are getting cleaned.

You'll want your puppies to stay warm so a heating lamp is a must. I like this one https://amzn.to/3On9cyn

Make sure momma is taking the proper vitamins and is on a good diet as she is giving all of her nutrients to her puppies.

My favorite is https://lifesabundance.com/Pets/Supplements/WellnessFoodSupplement.aspx?realname=20831372&cat=4&hdr=&Ath=True&crt=0&Category=DogDailySupplement_v11(Pet_Base)&Sku=102018

Like I said moms have that natural motherly instinct so normally the birthing process will go smoothly and mom can do it all on her own. I like to allow my dogs to give birth in a quite, peaceful environment so I allow her to be by herself without much of my distraction.  Of course like anything things can happen so I am constantly peaking on her and step in if anything is ever needed and she knows I'm there for comfort.

Moms are amazing and will feed, bath and take care of their puppies all on their own(in most cases) and very little assistance is needed. You'll start to see the mom distancing herself to allow the puppies to become more independent. Again its all an amazing natural process.

I am not a Vet so of course check with yours for advise but I personally get the puppies dewormed at 2, 4, 6 & 8 weeks. I then start their shots at 6 weeks.

Raising lab adults and puppies I have found that the nutrition you give your animals has a HUGE impact on their health and longevity. Something so simple as what you feed them can help so much. I have researched so much dog food/supplements and found the very best for my dogs. Gluten free, holistic and no recalls ever. I decided to partner with the company for a few reasons. While I truly care for my puppies I can know that the food I am recommending to their owners is giving them the best nutrition. Plus I am able to earn a residual income from the food/supplement purchases that the new owners are getting. If you would like additional information on partnering I would love to help you out. If you are interested in partnering and offering these products to your pets/owners
